Pam Grier was born to Gwendolyn, a homemaker and nurse and Clarence Ransom Grier, a mechanic and Technical Sergeant in the United States Air Force. She is of African American descent. She has two siblings, one sister and one brother. During her childhood, her family moved from one place to another because of her father’s military career. Finally, they settled in Denver, Colorado where she attended East High School and appeared in various stage productions. Grier also participated in beauty contests to support herself financially. Her appearance in ‘women in prison films’ and ‘blaxploitation B movies made her a household name.

In 1967, Pam moved to Los Angeles and worked as a receptionist at the American International Pictures Company. Later, Roger Corman, a director, discovered her and offered her roles in ‘The Big Doll House’, ‘The Big Bird Cage’, and ‘The Arena’. In 1973’s ‘Coffy’, Pam portrayed a nurse determined to revenge on drug dealers. Movie was a big hit and it made her to be noted as the first African American female to headline a film. She next appeared in the AIP films ‘Foxy Brown’, ‘Friday Foster’, and ‘Sheba, Baby’. During the 1980s, she made her appearance on ‘Fort Apache the Bronx’, ‘Something Wicked this Way comes’, ‘Above the Law’, ‘Miami Vice’, ‘Night Court’, ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel Air’, ‘Crime Story’ etc.

She also appeared in the Showtime series ‘Linc’s’. In 1997, she was seen in Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Jackie Brown’. She gave a guest appearance on ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’.

In the early 1970s, Pam Grier dated Kareem Abdul Jabbar, a basketball player and later she dated Richard Pryor, an actor/comedian. She also had a relationship with actor/comedian. Pam got engaged to Kevin Evans, a music executive but they broke up in 1999. The lady has won various nominations and awards for her splendid performances in several movies and TV shows.

Pam appears as Kate ‘Kit’ Porter in the hit series ‘The L Word’. She’s Betty Poter’s half sister. Professionally, she is a musician and later becomes the owner of The Planet, a local café and night club. She’s heterosexual woman who always tries to keep her life on track.
